Herodotos Herodotou, Ph.D.

Dr. Herodotos Herodotou is an Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering and Informatics at the Cyprus University of Technology. He received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from Duke University in May 2012. His Ph.D. dissertation work received the ACM SIGMOD Jim Gray Doctoral Dissertation Award Honorable Mention as well as the Outstanding Ph.D. Dissertation Award in Computer Science at Duke. Before joining CUT, he held research positions at Microsoft Research, Yahoo! Labs, and Aster Data, as well as software engineering positions at Microsoft and RWD Technologies. His research interests include large-scale Data Processing Systems and Database Systems. In particular, his work focuses on ease of use, manageability, and automated tuning of both centralized and distributed data-intensive computing systems. In addition, he is interested in applying database and dataflow system techniques in other domains like maritime, tourism, energy, social computing, environment, scientific computing, and bioinformatics. RESEARCH ASSOCIATES

Sheraz Aslam, PhD

Dr. Sheraz Aslam received his Ph.D. in Computer Engineering and Informatics from Cyprus University of Technology, Limassol, Cyprus, under the supervision of Dr. Herodotos Herodotou. Currently, Dr. Sheraz is a Postdoctoral Researcher at DICL Research Lab, Cyprus University of Technology, Limassol, Cyprus, where he is part of the European Union-funded research project aerOS. Previously, he worked on two nationally-funded research projects: STEAM and MARI-Sense. He has authored over 80 research publications in ISI-indexed international journals and conferences, including IEEE Internet of Things Journal, Renewable & Sustainable Energy Reviews, and Electric Power System Research. His research interests include intelligent shipping, data analytics, generative adversarial networks, wireless networks, smart grid, and cloud computing.

Ekaterini Hadjisolomou, PhD

Dr. Ekaterini Hadjisolomou is a Postdoctoral Researcher at DICL Research Lab, Cyprus University of Technology, working on the nationally funded large infrastructure project, MDigi-I (Maritime Digitalization Research Infrastructure). In the past, she worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher for the CUT-funded MERMAID project as well as two nationally-funded projects, STEAM and MARI-Sense. Dr. Hadjisolomou specializes in modeling freshwater eutrophication using advanced machine and deep learning techniques such as artificial neural networks and Kohonen Self-Organizing Maps. She has a PhD in Geology, an MSc in Environmental Sciences, and a BSc in Mathematics.

Andreas Kouspos, PhD

Andreas Kouspos holds a Ph.D. in Maritime studies focusing on finance from the Department of Commerce, Finance and Shipping at Cyprus University of Technology. He is a Business Administration Program Coordinator at Cyprus College, a Lecturer in various Shipping and Economics modules, and a Project Manager at the MDigi-I project. His research interests lie in operations, risk, and return of global shipping companies. Before joining CUT, Andreas graduated from the University of Plymouth with an MSc in International Shipping. He also holds a BSc in Accounting and Finance from the University of Essex. Dr. Andreas is also a member of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers. He was awarded 1st prize winner for the shipping finance examination of ICS in May 2022 as the candidate achieving the highest marks worldwide. Dr. Andreas has also won the 1st prize in Let’s Talk Simple Science competition that took place in April 2016 at CUT with his presentation topic “Credit risk analysis of shipping loans”. He has also experience in the shipping industry for more than a year.

Nicos Evmides

Nicos Evmides holds an M.Sc. in Data Communication and Distributed Systems from University College London (UCL), UK, and a B.Sc. in Computer Science from the University of Indianapolis, USA. With a long-standing involvement in both Information Technologies and Business, Nicos is focusing on the research areas of data collection, data management, and data analysis methodologies aimed to address real-world business needs in the area of maritime informatics. He is currently working on the nationally-funded large infrastructure project, MDigi-I (Maritime Digitalization Research Infrastructure), while in the past, he worked on the STM (Sea Traffic Management Validation Project) and STEAM (Sea Traffic Management in the Eastern Mediterranean) projects.
