Herodotos Herodotou, Ph.D.
Dr. Herodotos Herodotou is an Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and Engineering at the Cyprus University of Technology, leading the Data Intensive Computing Research Lab. He received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from Duke University. His Ph.D. dissertation received the ACM SIGMOD Jim Gray Doctoral Dissertation Award Honorable Mention as well as the Outstanding Ph.D. Dissertation Award in Computer Science at Duke. Before joining CUT, he held research positions at Microsoft Research, Yahoo! Labs, and Aster Data, as well as software engineering positions at Microsoft and RWD Technologies. His research interests include large-scale Data Processing Systems, Database Systems, and Cloud Computing. In particular, his work focuses on ease of use, manageability, and automated tuning of both centralized and distributed data-intensive computing systems. In addition, he is interested in applying database and dataflow system techniques to other domains such as maritime informatics, smart tourism, energy, social computing, environmental informatics, and bioinformatics. RESEARCH ASSOCIATES

Marios Touloupou, PhD
Dr. Marios Touloupou is a software researcher, academic, and engineer with expertise in cloud computing, edge computing, IoT, AI, and blockchain. He holds a PhD from the University of Nicosia, where his research centered on performance assessment frameworks for distributed ledger technologies and blockchain. He has led research and innovation efforts in several EU-funded projects, focusing on cloud orchestration, AI-driven data management, and IoT integration. His current work as a postdoctoral researcher at the Cyprus University of Technology includes participation in the HYPER-AI project, where he is responsible for advancing AI-based solutions across the cloud continuum. In addition to his research, Dr. Touloupou is an adjunct lecturer at Neapolis University Paphos and the American University of Beirut - Mediterraneo, teaching distributed systems and programming languages.

Ekaterini Hadjisolomou, PhD
Dr. Ekaterini Hadjisolomou is a Postdoctoral Researcher at DICL Research Lab, Cyprus University of Technology, working on the nationally funded large infrastructure project, MDigi-I (Maritime Digitalization Research Infrastructure). In the past, she worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher for the CUT-funded MERMAID project as well as two nationally-funded projects, STEAM and MARI-Sense. Dr. Hadjisolomou specializes in modeling freshwater eutrophication using advanced machine and deep learning techniques such as artificial neural networks and Kohonen Self-Organizing Maps. She has a PhD in Geology, an MSc in Environmental Sciences, and a BSc in Mathematics.

Syed Mafooq Ul Hassan
Syed Mafooq Ul Hassan is a PhD student and Research Associate at the DICL Lab, Cyprus University of Technology. He is currently working on the EU-funded project HYPER-AI. He has a master's degree in Intelligent Critical Infrastructure Systems from the University of Cyprus and a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from the National University of Computer and Emerging Sciences. Previously, he worked as a Research Engineer at the KIOS Center of Excellence, where he contributed to R&D projects such as PathoCERT and Oceanos, focusing on critical infrastructure systems. Mafooq's research interests include IoT, Edge and Cloud Computing, Machine Learning, Optimization, as well as Deep Learning and Computer Vision.

George Savva
George Savva is a PhD Candidate in Computer Science at the Cyprus University of Technology, as of September 2023, focusing on machine learning, data science, and distributed storage systems. He has a strong foundation in programming and software development, with proficiency in Java, Python, C++, and web technologies. George has excelled academically, securing a scholarship for his PhD studies based on his outstanding performance, and has received multiple awards during his studies from recognized bodies such as SEPAHK, ETEK, and Huawei Technologies. He is currently working on the nationally funded project, TRUST-ESG (Optimizing Transparency and Accuracy in State-of-the-Art AI-Powered ESG Reporting Approaches for SMEs).

Sotiris Vasileiadis
Sotiris Vasileiadis is an MSc student in Artificial Intelligence and Data Engineering and a Research Software Developer at the DICL Lab, Cyprus University of Technology. He holds a BSc in Computer Engineering and Informatics from the Cyprus University of Technology. He is currently working on the MDigi-I (Maritime Digitalization Research Infrastructure) project and previously worked on the aerOS project. Sotiris' research interests include Machine Learning, Computer Vision, IoT, web technologies, and more.
